South Africa currently emits over half a billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year. The emissions make it the 12th highest emitter per person in the world. These greenhouse gases trap heat and warm the planet. That warming is set to unwind the ecosystems required for life on earth. Unfortunately, we are not aware of how our daily actions impact the environment.
The Treevestment Campaign is an initiative designed to mobilise commitment from civil society members and private/public sector corporates to take remedial action in responding to challenges threatening the welfare of our environment. The campaign is a brainchild of Projekt 23’s Conservation, Awareness and Participation (CAP) approach. This methodology streamlines stakeholders within communities to cooperate in finding solutions that are both empowering and sustainable as far as environmental conservation is concerned. Through the campaign, we aim to encourage individuals and companies to invest in the greening of communities, by sponsoring trees at R150 each. The sponsored trees are planted at the schools we work with.
